Poetry Workshop with The Versemongers

The Versemongers is very excited to host a poetry workshop for closet poets across town. We are hoping to transcend boundaries across different art forms by working with our dear friend, Alia Kamal, a painter whose exhibition, “Excerpts”, is currently displayed at the venue:

We will start the workshop with a couple of warm-up exercises to get our muscles flexing and then write poems responding to paintings by Alia Kamal. A feedback and re-drafting session will follow. It will be a safe space where we will come together to learn from each other and develop our skills. Even if you have never written/shared your poetry before, this might be your chance to let your creative juices flow and hammer out a poem, and you might just surprise yourself!

Materials to bring: Notebook, pen, a brave heart, and an open mind 🙂

More about The Versemongers:

The Versemongers is a bilingual poetry collective based in Bangladesh that strives to improve its craft through regular workshops and performances and to become active and engaging participants of the larger arts and culture movement of Bangladesh.

All the members of the collective have worked extensively with British Council and University of Liberal Arts, Bangladesh, and participated in various workshops and events organized by them, including workshops facilitated by poets such as Ross Sutherland, Inua Ellams, and Kaiser Huq. They have also all been publishing their work regularly in platforms such as Dhaka Tribune Arts & Letters, The Daily Star, Six Seasons Review, Monsoon Letters and many more.

Furthermore, since the beginning of this year, the collective has organized successful shows at Jatra Biroti and Gourmet Bazar and a workshop at North South University. It also conducted a flash poetry session at Dhaka Lit Fest 2018.
